Metter Candler County is nestled in the heart of South Georgia’s Magnolia Midlands, about 75 miles west of Savannah.
Here, small-town traditions and a thriving historic downtown mix with the modern conveniences of neighboring meccas such as Savannah and Atlanta. Strategically located along I-16, with a workforce of over 64,000, Metter stands poised to engage businesses looking for new or expanded partnerships.
Candler County prides itself on its thriving agricultural industry – a $50 million dollar business annually. Traditional row crops like cotton and peanuts remain strong. Metter is home to two cotton gins and a large peanut processing facility. Additionally, Candler County is part of the elite 13 county area where Vidalia onions can be grown.
Each year, on the Saturday before Easter the Metter-Candler Chamber of Commerce sponsors “Another Bloomin Festival” in Metter’s beautiful downtown parks. The event includes an Easter egg hunt, arts and crafts show, food booths, bike-a –thon, fun run/walk, flower show, classic car cruise-in, and more.
Metter is home to the Guido Evangelical Association, familiar to radio and television audiences worldwide for its “Seeds from the Sower” programs. The Guidos’ prayer chapel and garden, known as the most beautiful three acres in Georgia, are open to the public year-round. Each December, the Gardens sponsors “Nights of Lights” which welcomes more than 25,000 visitors. The event showcases countless lighted displays along with narrated Bible stores told through animated displays and special music. Candler County is focused on investing in its children and the community prides itself on a thriving public school system. The new state-of-the-art ‘Candler County School Community Educational Complex’, to be completed in late 2013, will house students in all grades pre-K through high school.
Local Candler County Archway partners include the City of Metter, Candler County Board of Commissioners, Candler County Board of Education, Metter-Candler County Chamber of Commerce, and the Candler County Industrial Authority.
