New clinic coming to Clayton County
September 14, 2012
JONESBORO — A 45-year old medical center is getting ready to open a new satellite clinic in Lovejoy next week, according to center officials.
Atlanta-based Southside Medical Center will open its seventh clinic, located at 2201 Talmadge Road, in Lovejoy, on Wednesday, at 9 a.m., with an open house and health fair. The health fair will last until 2 p.m., and it will include free glucose, cholesterol, blood pressure, body mass index and dental screenings.
“SMC has grown to become the largest community health center in the state of Georgia and one of the ten largest in the United States.” said Dr. David Williams, chief executive officer of Southside Medical Center, in a written statement. “We are very proud of what we offer the community, and we invite everyone to come to our free Health Fair to discover more about us.”
The Lovejoy clinic will be the center’s second clinic in Clayton County. A clinic already exists on Upper Riverdale Road, in Riverdale. The new clinic was established through a grant from the Southern Crescent Hospital for Specialty Care, according to the center. The grant, which is for an unspecified amount, covers the clinic’s first year of operating expenses.
The center spent the last three years working with the Clayton County Board of Health, Southern Regional Medical Center and the Clayton County Archway Partnership to get federal designations for the county. Those designations include a Low-Income Primary Care Health Professional Shortage Area, and a Low-Income Dental Health Professional Shortage Area.
People interested in attending and participating in the celebration and health fair must RSVP by calling 404-564-6903, or 404-688-1350.
