The Hartwell Sun: Archway Connects Hart County

March 23, 2017

The Hart County Archway Partnership is a collaborative partnership among the City of Hartwell, Hart County Board of Commissioners, Hart County Board of Education, Hart County Chamber of Commerce, Hart County Industrial Building Authority, Hart Telephone Company, Hart Electric Membership Corporation, and the University of Georgia’s Office of Vice President for Public Service and Outreach.

The Archway Partnership connects Georgia communities to the full range of higher education resources available at UGA to address critical community-identified needs. Partner communities have access to the knowledge, research and other resources available through the interactions between the communities and the university, while faculty and students are able to experience firsthand the opportunities and challenges facing the state. The community drives the process through an executive committee of community leaders and local organizations.

The efforts of the Hart County Archway Partnership focus on four main priority areas: education and workforce development, tourism, long-term planning and visioning, and leadership.

The Hart Archway Executive Committee is working alongside Hart County Schools on several initiatives, including STEM (science, technology, engineering and math) curriculum initiatives, Bring Your Own Technology programs, and the College and Career Academy strategic planning process. Projects have also been identified in conjunction with the Hart County Recreation Department to implement various priorities including multi-purpose fitness trails, new wayfinding signage for trails and parks, and ‘Where We Play,’ an all-inclusive community playground.

Other efforts include assisting the Hart County Industrial Building Authority and Hart County Government with ongoing efforts to make the community attractive to industry, and providing support to the Chamber of Commerce for Leadership Hart and Leadership Hart Youth.

Hart Archway Partnership is in its eighth year of the program and has worked on nearly 150 projects over those eight years. Hart is one of eight communities across Georgia to be part of the Archway Partnership.
