The Archway Partnership recently collaborated with the University of Georgia’s Grady College of Journalism and Mass Communications throughout fall 2015 to create media kits for four Archway community projects. Media kits included items such as sample social media posts and press releases. Through these efforts, 72 undergraduate students in Associate Professor Maria Len-Rios’ Public Relations Communications course worked with representatives from the Grady County Chamber of Commerce, Calvary Lions Club, City of Whigham, and the Ochlockonee River Water Trail in Grady County to assist with promotion of cultural and tourism assets throughout Grady County. Habersham Archway utilized the students to assist its Recycling Work Group. The students created a community education campaign to encourage residents to recycle. The Hart Archway Where We Play (WWP) Work Group requested help promoting and encouraging use of the newly designed all-accessible WWP playground. Students created an awareness and involvement campaign to generate community interest and participation in the new facility. The Pulaski Archway requested students develop a regional media kit to promote the 65-mile Enduring Farmlands Scenic Byway in Pulaski and Wilcox Counties. The media kit will increase visitors’ awareness of these communities’ great assets and contribute positively to tourism and economic development of the area. In December, Archway faculty and community members attended Len-Rios’ classes for the students’ final presentations.
